Good news and bad news

The good news is that after removing the spark plugs, the new engine turns freely. The bad news is that it turns freely through about 330 degrees. Probably a stuck valve, hopefully some penetrating oil and a hammer will free it up.

Hi guys, I think what you're doing looks like a lot of fun. Check out the forums at Corvair Center and FastVair. Lots of information and help is available to make your Corvair faster and more reliable. You might also be able to sell unwanted parts through these same people. I just traded a powerglide transaxle for a good trunk lid.
Good Luck!

Glad to see you are making progress. We were pitted across from you in Reno (blue #6 Camaro). You got a pic in Chevy High Performance Magazine too... September issue, I think. Good luck with the Corvair!

Can't edit my post, but here's a link to the pic of your car in the mag: click!

Hey there,
I'm from Team ProjectFateRacing (one of the several Nissan300zx's), anyways I have a '65 Corvair Monza 4door that I was going to turn into a Corvair-ru (subaru corvair)... but I have to part with my project for financial reasons. I don't have the engine anymore, the body's pretty straight and has all it's chrome though I bet you probably don't want another body. Anyways, I wanted to see if you guys need any parts before I haul it off (or craig-list what's left). I also have a pile of parts I ordered from Clark's that I haven't used (shocks, transmission rebuild kit to name a few). I'm not greedy and would love to see these parts go to good use to a fellow crazy lemons-team :-). Let me know if this is of interest and I'll send you a spreadsheet of what I have.
Cheers,
B

Beth, that sounds like it could certainly be of interest. Not sure exactly what we need at this moment - the transmission worked OK but the engine seemed to be losing what little power it had and occasionally making horrible banging noises.

Let me know if you still have it...

Sorry to hear that, unfortunately I don't have the engine anymore. It was in really bad shape, carburetors were messy, missing parts. It had a dead hole and bad compression in 2 others, the pushrod tubes and oil pan were banged up and it wouldn't hold oil for more than a few days... it was in such sorry shape. I had planned to put a subaru EJ20Turbo in it, but I have to shelve my plan till I know where we land and I really can't afford to garage the car while we figure it out.
What I do have are the gabriel adjustable shocks (stiffest available), the transmission and a transmission seal kit, and any parts you might want to take from the car (original springs, drums, mirrors) just let me know and I'll send them up to you. No problem either way.

Can you email me at jake@boom.net? Is it a powerglide or manual? If it's the manual we'd be interested in bits of the clutch linkage, the transmission rebuild kit, the shocks, etc.

I really appreciate this offer, by the way.
